This is example saves $4,187 per person per year with minimal effort.

1. Review Your B&W Printer Assets Some printers are much more efficient than others. For the list that we checked, toner costs for the most efficient B&W printers averaged 87.00/person/year. The five least efficient averaged $431/per person per year. $344
2. Color Printing Print color only when necessary: Color tends to be 4-10 times more expensive than B&W - think $55 per ream for color vs 10 per ream for B&W. Your savings per employee should be at least $900 per year. If you're using an inefficient color printer, it could double. $900
3. Ink & Toner Switch to generic or remanufactured ink/toner unless you have a compelling reason not to do so. You'll see a savings of 40 - 70%. We switched completely with 3 years ago. We've never seen drop in print quality or damage to our printers. $600
4. Install Dual/Bigger Monitors Studies suggest a 9-50% productivity increase per person as monitor space increases. An employee who spends only 25% of her time at her computer gains 14 work days per year with just a 25% productivity increase. That's $2,400/year. If the same employee spends half her time at the computer, it's $4,800. $1,353
5. Basic Skills Training On average, employees with poor fundamental computing skills (Windows/Word/Excel) waste 136 hours per year in work-around's and redundant tasks. On-site training for groups of five costs $150/hour. Assume you have five (5) employees that might benefit from skills training, six hours of training costs = $150/employee. If you can cut time wasted by buy half, you'll gain 66 hours/employee/year. $790
6. Keep Accessories in Stock Expect to save $200 per employee by keeping small parts around. See the Spare Parts Check List for more. $200

    Total Savings Per Person $4,187

Note: The Productivity and salary calculations on this page are based on an annual salary & benefits package of $37K - average compensation for a typical office assistant (source). The chart reports a conservative estimate of attainable savings - usually 30% - 50% of what we believe is the attainable maximum.
