Stimulus Plan Penalties:
The American Recovery and Reinvenstment Act of 2009
Penalites in the stimulus bill go into effect in 2015. Providers who do not use certified EMR/EHR technology to submit Medicare bills will be subject to reimbursement penalites as follows:
| 2015 - 1% |
2016 - 2% |
2017 - 3% |
Penalties for 2018 and beyond will be levied at the discretion of the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
The secratary may reduce reimbursements by an additonal 1% per year to a maximum of 5% IF EMR adoption rates remain below 75%.
